AssemblyAI: #1 in speech-to-text APIs

From $0.15
8.6Score 8.6 out of 10

With no monthly plan, a $30 budget sets how many hours you transcribe: at the lower hourly rate, before add-ons, it covers about 200 hours.

#1 in AI voice generators

ElevenLabs: #1 in AI voice generators

From $6 · free plan
8.5Score 8.5 out of 10

Starter brings the commercial license, instant cloning and a bigger credit pot than the free plan, plus dubbing and commercial rights on music.

#1 in AI music generators

Mureka: #1 in AI music generators

From $8 · free plan
8.2Score 8.2 out of 10

Best speech-to-text APIs under $30

3 picks

Developers shopping for a speech to text API at this budget are really choosing a meter and a data policy. AssemblyAI and Rev AI price by the hour and Deepgram by usage, and Rev AI alone commits to never training on your audio. Choose AssemblyAI for a long add-on list, Deepgram for streaming plus spoken output, Rev AI for sensitive recordings.

#1AssemblyAI: Best for per-hour transcription with add-ons

Universal-3.5 Pro: Highly accurate STT model, 99 languages, 12.5M+ hours training data, no minimum commitment

With no monthly plan, a $30 budget sets how many hours you transcribe: at the lower hourly rate, before add-ons, it covers about 200 hours. The signup credit is a one-time allowance. Redaction, speaker diarization and custom vocabulary are add-ons, and a self-hosted deployment exists for audio that must stay on your network. Choose it over Deepgram when add-ons matter more than spoken output.

  • Pay-as-you-go pricing by the hour means you pay only for the audio you actually process, with no seat count or subscription.
  • New accounts get a $50 signup credit, enough for up to 185 hours of pre-recorded transcription or 333 hours of streaming.
  • There is no ongoing free plan; the $50 signup credit is a one-time allowance, not a recurring tier.

#2Deepgram: Best for streaming speech APIs, self-hosted if needed

Teams that stream heavily can prepay a year of credits on Growth for up to 20% off the same rates, though that starts far above this page's cap. Below it you pay as you go, with a credit that never expires and a metered text to speech API beside transcription. Support is email, documentation and Discord. Choose it over Rev AI for self-hosting and voice output; it trains on your content unless you opt out.

  • New accounts get $200 in free credit with no card required and no expiration date.
  • Deepgram is SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 certified, with GDPR-ready EU data residency.
  • There is no flat monthly plan: every tier is metered, pay-as-you-go usage billing.

No flat plan exists: Reverb transcription is billed per hour of English audio, with translation, summarization and sentiment as separate usage-billed add-ons. Free credit worth five hours comes on signup, and a HIPAA-compliant tier sits with Enterprise. Choose it over AssemblyAI when you want a firm rule against training on customer content and a SOC 2 audit; AssemblyAI offers self-hosting.

  • Rev AI never uses customer content to train external AI models.
  • It is SOC 2 Type II audited and offers a HIPAA-compliant tier for Enterprise customers.
  • There is no flat monthly plan or free ongoing tier, only usage-based Pay As You Go billing.

Best AI voice generators under $30

8 picks

These seven count voice in different units: credits at ElevenLabs, download minutes at Typecast and WellSaid, hours of generation at Murf, reading speed at Speechify, weekly credits at PodGen.io. For an AI voice generator under $30 a month the license still splits them: ElevenLabs, Typecast, Murf and WellSaid include commercial rights, while Notevibes keeps them for Pro. Pick PodGen.io for two-host podcasts.

#4ElevenLabs: Best for cloning and dubbing in one studio

Starter brings the commercial license, instant cloning and a bigger credit pot than the free plan, plus dubbing and commercial rights on music. Professional cloning and a much larger pot sit a plan higher, and shared seats come later still. Choose it over Murf AI for dubbing and multi-voice dialogue; Murf wins when your voices need to sit inside slides or e-learning tools.

  • More than 11,000 voices are available across 70+ languages through the Eleven v3 model.
  • Instant voice cloning is available from the cheapest paid plan, with professional cloning opening on Creator.
  • The free plan carries no commercial license, so its output cannot be used commercially without upgrading.

#5Speechify: Best for reading documents aloud on every device

  • An ongoing free plan lets you try the Reader with no credit card before paying for Premium.
  • Premium billed annually works out to about $11.58 a month, a clear discount against the $29 monthly rate.
  • The free plan limits you to 10 robotic sounding voices and playback speeds capped at 1.5x.

#6Typecast: Best for audiobooks and cloning from a phone

  • The free plan allows unlimited generation and playback, with 3,000 lifetime download credits.
  • Voice cloning comes in two forms: instant cloning from a 5-second sample and professional cloning from a 5-minute sample.

  • The library runs to 200+ voices across 30+ languages and accents.

Starter and Personal both fit under the cap. Personal adds WAV export, multi-voice dialogues and AI Cover generation, but it stays non-commercial, and full commercial rights belong to the Pro plan, beyond this page. • Notevibes has an ongoing free plan that needs no card and puts no watermark on its output.
  • The Pro plan's voice library runs to 550+ voices across 72 languages.
  • Full commercial usage rights are limited to the Pro plan; Personal is for personal, non-commercial use only.

#9Resemble AI: Best for voice cloning with deepfake detection

There is no tier to climb: credits never expire and every voice model is open from the start. The extras are billed monthly per voice or seat: cloned or designed voices cost a few dollars each, and a team seat at $20 a month per user, which fits this cap for a small group. Choose it over ElevenLabs when you are shipping voice in a product and want audio watermarking and deepfake detection alongside.

  • Resemble AI uniquely combines voice generation, audio watermarking, and deepfake detection under one roof, a combination not found in competing platforms.
  • The Chatterbox model family offers multiple variants including Turbo for speed, Multilingual, Nano for lighter workloads, and DramaBox for expressive content.
  • Resemble AI does not offer music generation or sound design capabilities, limiting its appeal to users who need a broader audio creation toolkit.

#10WellSaid: Best for licensed voices with no AI training

  • WellSaid's free Trial tier needs no card and allows unlimited generation and retakes before you download anything.
  • WellSaid does not use customer data to train its model, on any plan.
  • The free Trial tier's output carries no commercial usage rights; only Starter and higher plans do.

Starter gives about 40 minutes of podcast audio a week from a document, website, YouTube video or pasted text, in two host voices. Scripts stop at 10,000 characters in one box. Pick it over Notevibes when you want a conversation rather than narration; free credits come on signup.

  • PodGen.io can generate a two-host podcast conversation from a document, website, YouTube video or pasted text.
  • It runs its own named Podgen Podcast AI Model 2.0.
  • PodGen.io has no ongoing free plan; every subscription is billed weekly or yearly, never monthly.

Best audio cleanup tools under $30

Podcast cleanup tools differ in who does the editing. Auphonic and Cleanvoice AI automate levelling and cutting, while Adobe Podcast leaves cuts to you through the transcript. Cleanvoice keeps edits in sync across each speaker's track, Auphonic publishes finished episodes to your host, and Adobe Podcast is the quick fix for one noisy recording.

#16Auphonic: Best for hands-off podcast production and publishing

Multitrack sessions are capped under 20 minutes until you move to a yearly or business plan. Choose it over Cleanvoice AI when you want loudness targets and publishing straight to your podcast host; Cleanvoice wins on multitrack filler cutting.

  • The free tier processes 2 hours of audio every month on an ongoing basis, not a time limited trial.
  • It levels, denoises and normalizes loudness to a target like -16 LUFS in one pass, and cuts filler words and silence automatically.
  • Free tier output carries an Auphonic jingle, and multitrack productions are capped under 20 minutes on the free tier and base plans.

#17Cleanvoice AI: Best for cutting filler words on every track

Choose it over Auphonic when edits must stay in sync across every speaker's track and export as a timeline to your editor. It does not publish to hosts.

How to choose an AI audio tool under $30 a month

A $30 ceiling reaches most commercial licenses and gives nearly every tool a real monthly allowance. The question changes from whether you can publish to what runs out first, and the answer depends on the unit each plan counts: hours of audio, minutes of downloads, credits, characters or API usage. Below, each tool is matched to a job, each plan is read for what it counts, and the later sections turn to limits, privacy terms and the moment a bigger plan starts to save you money.

Start with the job, not the tool

Twenty-three tools share this page, and they do five kinds of work.

  • Transcripts and show notes. Sonix, Rev AI, AssemblyAI and Deepgram produce transcripts, the first with an editor and the others through an API. Castmagic and Podsuite go further and turn an episode into notes, chapters and posts, while Yaps dictates on your own device.
  • Cleanup and editing. Auphonic levels and publishes finished episodes, Cleanvoice AI cuts filler words and dead air across every track, and Adobe Podcast cleans speech and lets you edit by deleting words from the transcript.
  • Voiceover and narration. ElevenLabs, Typecast, Murf AI, WellSaid and Notevibes all turn scripts into speech, Speechify reads documents aloud, and PodGen.io turns a document or website into a two-host podcast conversation. Resemble AI adds a pay-per-use API with cloning.
  • Music. Suno, Mureka and Udio write songs with vocals, and Soundraw composes instrumental background tracks.
  • Speaking practice. Pronounce AI gives feedback on English pronunciation, spoken grammar and fluency.

Pick the closest row below and read its second column for the point where you would change tools.

What the price actually buys

The meters differ in unit and in period, so judge a plan by how it behaves in a busy month.

  • Speech-to-text APIs. Hours or minutes of audio. AssemblyAI begins at $0.15 an hour, Rev AI sits at $0.20, and Deepgram bills streaming by the minute. Cost scales in a straight line, so your budget is also a volume cap.
  • Transcription tools. Hours or credits. Castmagic Hobby covers 30 hours, Sonix Core five hours, and Podsuite Creator 160 credits.
  • Voice generators. Credits, download minutes or generation hours. Murf Creator counts 24 hours a year on annual billing, and WellSaid Starter counts 240 minutes of downloads a year, so a single heavy month eats into the whole year. Typecast Basic gives 60 minutes of downloads each month while generation stays unlimited.
  • Music generators. Credits or downloads. Soundraw Creator allows unlimited downloads, while its Artist Starter plan allows ten a month.
  • Audio cleanup. Processed hours. Auphonic S gives nine, Cleanvoice AI ten with rollover, and Adobe Podcast limits the length of a file.

A yearly allowance rewards a steady schedule of episodes or courses rather than one burst. Rollover helps uneven months: Cleanvoice AI carries unused hours up to three times the plan limit, and Podsuite's Agency plan rolls credits over for two months. Hourly rates also fall with size, since Cleanvoice AI charges less per hour on a subscription than on its pay-as-you-go packs.

Which tool fits which creator

  • Podcasters. Start with Auphonic S, which levels audio, cuts noise and publishes to your host, with nine hours a month and speech recognition included. Add Cleanvoice AI for filler words, and Castmagic Hobby for show notes from the finished episode.
  • Video creators. Start with ElevenLabs Starter for narration, since it includes a commercial license, instant voice cloning and dubbing. Add Soundraw Creator for licensed background music, which allows unlimited MP3 downloads for videos and podcasts.
  • Musicians. Start with Suno Pro for songs with release rights and ownership. Move to Mureka Premier when you need WAV, stems and MIDI, and keep Udio for private listening.
  • Developers using speech APIs. Start with AssemblyAI for low-cost transcription with redaction, or Deepgram if text to speech and self-hosting are also on your list. Resemble AI covers voice generation, cloning and deepfake detection on pay-per-use billing.
  • Course makers and trainers. Start with Murf AI Creator, which plugs into Articulate 360, Captivate and Google Slides. Bring in WellSaid Starter if licensed narrators and a no-training guarantee matter.
  • Researchers and journalists. Start with Sonix Core, because its editor keeps timestamps when you correct words and its output exports to NVivo and Premiere Pro. Use Rev AI for bulk raw text.

Where the entry plans stop

Limit Tools What happens when you hit it
Length of one job Auphonic (multitrack under 20 minutes on base plans), Soundraw (five-minute tracks), PodGen.io (10,000-character scripts) Longer work is split and joined by hand
Feature tiers Castmagic (API), Podsuite (blog posts and social copy), Murf AI (emphasis controls) The feature needs a bigger plan
One user Murf AI, Sonix, Cleanvoice AI, Podsuite Shared workspaces are not part of these plans
File type Soundraw Creator, Mureka Pro MP3 only, with WAV and stems higher up
Download minutes WellSaid, Typecast Further files wait for the allowance to refill

Entry plans tend to stop at the size of a single job, the number of people or the kind of file, before they stop at price. Split long work at natural breaks, such as chapters or scenes, so the join is invisible. Choose the file type before the plan, since a library of MP3 files is hard to rebuild as stems. And count editors as well as hours, because a second person usually means a different product.

What the cheapest plan leaves out

Whole features sit a tier above most of these entry plans. Castmagic keeps API access for Starter, and Podsuite holds back blog posts and social copy. Murf AI keeps emphasis controls and a business license for Business. Typecast keeps the cloning slot for Pro, ElevenLabs keeps professional cloning for Creator, and Suno keeps Studio and MIDI export for Premier. Soundraw Creator leaves out distribution on streaming services, which starts with the Artist plans.

Limits on quality and teams follow the same pattern. WellSaid Starter produces 24 kHz audio, while Pro goes up to 48 kHz. Auphonic's base plans cap multitrack productions under 20 minutes. Sonix, Murf AI, Cleanvoice AI and Podsuite are one-user plans, and Speechify's free tier is replaced by Premium at $29 for its larger voice library.

Privacy, training and commercial use

If you work with client scripts, interviews or unreleased songs, the training rule decides which tools are safe to use.

Tool Training on your content Commercial use
WellSaid Never, on any plan Yes, from Starter
Sonix Never Yes
Cleanvoice AI Not used for training Yes
Rev AI Never Yes
Deepgram On by default, opt out per request or account Yes
ElevenLabs On by default, opt out available Yes, from Starter
Suno Prompts and outputs go into training, no opt-out is given Yes, on Pro
Udio Trains on prompts and output No, on any plan

Ownership of songs is a separate question. Suno Pro and Mureka Pro or Premier assign ownership, Soundraw grants a license, and Udio keeps ownership on every plan. WellSaid builds its voices from licensed actors, and Notevibes Personal is for non-commercial projects. Yaps keeps dictation and transcription on your device, which avoids the training question entirely.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Assuming annual allowances behave like monthly ones. Murf AI and WellSaid count hours or minutes across a year on annual billing. Spread your work across the months instead of using it in one burst.
  2. Choosing the cheapest transcription rate without checking training. Deepgram trains by default, while Rev AI and Sonix never do. Read the terms before sending client audio.
  3. Buying Soundraw Creator for a song release. It licenses background music for videos and podcasts. Distribution on Spotify, Apple Music and TikTok starts on the Artist plans.
  4. Using Notevibes Personal for paid work. It is for non-commercial projects, and commercial rights wait for Pro.
  5. Running long scripts through PodGen.io in one piece. Scripts above 10,000 characters need splitting first.

When to move up a plan

Move up when you plan around a cap instead of around the work. Splitting an episode to fit a limit, waiting for hours to renew and needing a feature the plan hides are the usual signs, and a larger plan costs less than the time those habits take.

If you are Move up to What changes
A weekly podcaster Auphonic's next plan 21 hours a month instead of nine
An agency voicing client work WellSaid Pro A far larger yearly allowance and an Adobe Express integration
A narrator needing a close clone ElevenLabs Creator Professional voice cloning and a much bigger pot
A growing audio team Typecast Business Team seats, more download hours and avatar generations

Billing terms vary widely. Murf AI and WellSaid list large savings on annual billing, Castmagic offers a yearly price, Podsuite takes 16% off for yearly, and PodGen.io bills weekly or yearly. For trials, Sonix and Cleanvoice AI give 30 minutes, Yaps seven days, and Udio seven days of paid features. Cleanvoice AI packs stay valid for two years, and a Podsuite hour pack never expires.

Using a cheap plan with a free one

Free tiers can take the early steps, which stretches a paid allowance.

  1. Clean first. Run a noisy recording through Adobe Podcast's free tier, one file at a time.
  2. Level and publish. Try Auphonic's free two hours, then move to a paid plan once the show is weekly.
  3. Write it up. Hand the finished episode to Castmagic or Podsuite for show notes, so paid hours go on content rather than rescue.

For voice work, try the script in Murf AI's free generation first, then produce the final take on the paid plan you picked.

How we picked

Every tool here is ranked by its score, and each score is worked out from the vendor’s own published pages: pricing, plans, features and terms. No score is adjusted by hand. 23 of the 24 tools have enough published facts to show a score, and on average 91% of each score comes from facts the vendor publishes. The facts behind these scores were checked between 21 September 2026 and 28 October 2026.

Scores compare tools that do the same job, which is why the list is grouped by job: a video editor and a grammar checker are never ranked against each other.

Common questions

What is the best AI audio tool for a podcast under $30 a month?

It depends on the job. Auphonic levels loudness and publishes straight to your host, Cleanvoice AI cuts filler words across every speaker's track, Podsuite writes show notes and chapters for solo shows, and Castmagic adds clips and newsletters. Most podcasters need one cleanup tool and one write-up tool, and the two categories are priced separately.

Do any of these tools bill weekly or by the year instead of monthly?

PodGen.io bills by the week or the year and never monthly. Murf AI and WellSaid state part of their voice allowance per year on annual billing, so heavy months draw it down. The speech-to-text APIs bill by usage rather than by plan. Cleanvoice AI, Podsuite and Notevibes also sell packs with no subscription.

Can I try a transcription tool before paying?

Yes. Sonix and Cleanvoice AI give a 30-minute trial with no card, and Yaps starts Pro with a seven-day trial. AssemblyAI gives a one-time signup credit, Deepgram $200 that never expires and Rev AI credit worth five hours. Castmagic and Podsuite state no free plan or trial, so a Podsuite one-hour pack is the cheapest first test.

How do the hours compare across podcast tools?

Auphonic's first paid plan gives nine hours a month, Cleanvoice AI ten with rollover, Castmagic Hobby 30 hours of transcription, Sonix Core five, and Podsuite 160 credits. Because each counts a different task, the figures are not interchangeable: cleanup hours differ from transcription hours. Weigh them against the length of your episodes and how many you release.

Which tool turns a website or PDF into a podcast?

PodGen.io builds a two-host conversation out of a PDF, a web page, a video link or pasted text, with each script capped at 10,000 characters. Notevibes offers a basic podcast tool and converts uploaded PDF, DOCX or PPTX files and pasted web articles into narration, with multi-voice dialogue on higher plans. Podsuite works the other way round, turning a finished episode into written material.

What does the Adobe Podcast paid plan add?

Adobe no longer sells Podcast on its own. The paid route is a Firefly Pro subscription that packages it alongside Adobe's wider generative credits. Over the free tier you get bulk upload of several files at once and separate volume controls for speech, noise and music. Filler-word and silence cutting stay manual on both tiers, done by deleting words in the transcript.

Which voice generator supports the most languages under $30?

Notevibes lists 72 languages on Starter, Speechify 60-plus on Premium, Typecast 35-plus, Murf AI 30-plus and PodGen.io 25-plus. WellSaid covers 17 languages. A long language list does not make a tool better for your script: cloning, dubbing, commercial rights and the voices available in your own language usually separate these tools more than the headline count does.
