What is Udio?
Udio is a product of Uncharted Labs, Inc., a company headquartered in the United States. It runs on the web at udio.com and through an official iOS app; there is no Android app, and any Udio app found in the Google Play store is unauthorized.
Making music with Udio
A song can be built from a text prompt, with vocals or as an instrumental, and you can supply your own lyrics for Udio to set to music. Songs generated on the standard model run up to 2 minutes 10 seconds, referred to as the udio130 model; the free plan limits you to 3 full-length songs of that length per day.
Every tier, including free, can extend or remix an existing song. Editing the music and lyrics directly, and uploading your own audio as a reference, are both restricted to the Standard and Pro plans. Stem downloads are not available on any plan.
Who owns what you make
This is the part to read before signing up. On every plan, free, Standard and Pro alike, you may use Udio's output only for personal, non-commercial purposes. Nothing can be downloaded: audio, video and stems were all disabled platform-wide, on every tier, so a song cannot leave the app in any form. Ownership of the output stays with Udio, not with you, on every plan, and Udio uses your prompts and the output you generate to train its models. Upgrading to Standard or Pro buys more credits and generations; it does not buy commercial rights, downloads or ownership.
Working with other people
Udio has no public developer API. It runs on the web and through its iOS app, with no shared team workspace for multiple users on one account.
Udio pricing: what each plan gives
The Free plan costs nothing and needs no card: it gives 10 credits a day and 100 credits a month, with no rollover, up to 4 songs generating at once, and a limit of 3 full-length songs a day. A one-time 7-day trial of a subset of Standard features is available; there is no trial of Pro.
Standard costs $10 a month ($8 a month billed yearly) and gives 2,400 credits a month. Pro costs $30 a month ($24 a month billed yearly) with a larger credit allowance. Neither paid plan changes the personal, non-commercial use restriction, and neither unlocks downloads or ownership of your output.
Privacy and support
Udio uses your prompts and the output you generate to train and improve its models, with no opt-out described. Its privacy policy sets out GDPR rights for EU and UK users. Support runs through email, live chat and a help center.
Who Udio suits
Udio suits someone who wants to experiment with AI-generated songs purely for their own listening, treating the app itself as the place the music stays. Extending, remixing and setting your own lyrics are available even on the free plan for that kind of casual use.
It suits far less well anyone who needs to keep, download, publish or sell what they make. Podcasters, video creators and anyone doing commercial work should look elsewhere, since no Udio plan, paid or free, grants commercial rights, a download of the finished song, or ownership of the output.
