Ideogram Review

Ideogram generates images and short videos from its own model, Ideogram 4.0, with a free plan to start and paid tiers above it billed by credits, up to a custom Enterprise plan. What decides whether it suits you is whether the security and legal protections on that Enterprise tier matter, since the standard plans go without them.

What is Ideogram?

Ideogram is a company headquartered in Toronto, Canada. It builds its own image and video models rather than reselling other companies', currently Ideogram 4.0. The product runs on the web and through an iOS app.

What Ideogram generates

Ideogram 4.0 generates images at 1K or 2K resolution, and the model is tuned for placing readable text and typography inside an image, for logos, packaging or layout work.

Character consistency is unlimited from the Plus plan up, and a style preset plus character reference images can steer a generation's look. Seed and negative prompt parameters are both available, and a Magic Prompt feature automatically rewrites a supplied prompt. There is no dedicated control for pose or structural input.

Edit modifies part of an existing image, Reframe extends it to a new resolution, and Remove Background and Upscale are also available as tools. Custom Model Training lets you build a model from your own uploaded datasets, offered in limited form on the Pro and Team plans and expanded into Custom Branded Models on the Enterprise plan. Ideogram does not output vector files. An API lets developers call its image and video models directly.

Working with other people

Ideogram runs on the web and through an iOS app. A Team plan bills per seat for a minimum of two users, giving a shared workspace. Single sign-on through Microsoft and Google is part of the separate, custom-priced Enterprise plan.

Ideogram pricing: what each plan gives

The Free plan costs nothing and gives weekly slow credits to eligible accounts and one generation running or queued at a time; it does not include private generations, batch generation or quality export. Plus costs $20 a month ($15 a month billed yearly) and includes 1,000 credits a month, private generation and unlimited character consistency. Pro costs $60 a month ($42 a month billed yearly) with 3,500 credits a month and adds batch generation. Team costs $30 a user a month ($20 a user a month billed yearly), requires at least two seats, and includes 1,500 credits a user a month. An Enterprise plan above these is priced by contacting sales.

Rights and privacy

Ideogram does not claim ownership of what you generate and assigns you all rights to it; using that output for your own purposes, including commercial purposes, is not restricted on any plan. Legal indemnification is part of the Enterprise plan; the standard terms of service only require you, not Ideogram, to indemnify the company.

Ideogram may use what you generate and upload to train its models, and no opt-out is offered on the Free, Plus, Pro or Team plans; on Enterprise, inputs are not used to train the shared models, and any custom training on your data is opt-in. SOC 2 audited security and single sign-on are also part of the Enterprise plan. Support runs through email and a Discord community, alongside a developer documentation site.

Who Ideogram suits

Ideogram suits people who want typography-heavy image generation with a free tier to start, full ownership and commercial rights on every plan, and tools like background removal, outpainting and Magic Prompt included without extra setup.

It suits less well anyone who needs legal indemnification, SOC 2 audited security or single sign-on without moving to the custom-priced Enterprise plan, or anyone who wants their prompts kept out of model training on a standard plan, since there is no opt-out below Enterprise.
