Every tool starts at zero and earns points for what it does and what it costs. Here is exactly what earns them.
The short version
These tools do different jobs, so each kind has its own checklist: AI image generators on 5 things, AI art platforms on 4 things and brand and product image tools on 4 things. Each checklist is worth 100 points, and a tool is only ranked against its own kind.
The final score is those points out of 10. A tool with 84 points scores 8.4.
Everything comes from the tool's own website. We don't take payment for points.

What earns points
1. What it makes
30 of 100 pointsEvery generator here makes an image from a prompt, starts from an image you upload, matches a reference style and edits what it made, so none of that earns a point. What is left is what separates them: how large the image comes out, whether text inside it is readable, keeping a character the same across images, steering with a pose or a sketch, training a style on your own pictures, extending past the frame, upscaling, cutting out a background and true vectors.

One-action background removalup to 0.4
Exports true vector filesup to 0.3
Each section adds up to 10, then counts for 30 of the 100.
2. Control and automation
20 of 100 pointsWhat you can do beyond typing a prompt: a public API, a batch in one run, a seed you can fix so a result repeats, saying what to leave out, having the prompt rewritten for you, and running the model on your own hardware.

3. Rights and privacy

4. Pricing
20 of 100 pointsWhat the cheapest paid plan costs each month, a free tier, and a trial. Where a vendor sells credits by the image instead of a plan, or hides the price behind a sign-in, the page says so rather than showing a number nobody published.

What earns points
1. What you can make with it
30 of 100 pointsHow many models it puts in front of you, training a style on your own images, video, editing an image, upscaling, keeping a character consistent and matching a reference style. All of them have a free tier, so that earns no points here.

2. The community around it
15 of 100 pointsThe part a generator on its own does not have: a public gallery, challenges, building on someone else's image, and a phone app.

What earns points
1. The imagery it is built for
35 of 100 pointsThe work these are bought for: training a private model on your own pictures, putting your product into a new scene, generating a person with it or a headshot, storing brand colours and fonts, keeping a character consistent, templates and readable text. Every one of them matches a reference style, edits images and removes backgrounds, so none of that earns a point.

This matters more here than anywhere else in the category, because the whole product is uploading your own pictures.

When a tool doesn't say
If a tool's website doesn't answer a yes-or-no question, it gets half the points for that item. Not zero, because a missing answer isn't the same as a no, and not full marks, because silence shouldn't beat a vendor who answers honestly. For a number, like a price, it gets the typical value of the tools that do publish one. Every item scored this way is marked on the tool's scorecard.
If a tool leaves out more than a third of what we check, we don't show a score for it at all. A number built mostly on guesses wouldn't be fair to you or to the tool. Right now 17 of the 21 tools we checked have enough information to be scored.
What the score doesn't tell you
We score what a tool offers and what it costs, as its own website describes it. That's not a hands-on test. The score can't tell you whether a tool is easy to use, whether its data is accurate, or whether support answers quickly. The review covers that.
