Comet is Perplexity's web browser, with Perplexity as its search engine, an assistant in a side panel that reads your tabs and an agent that can carry out tasks on websites for you. The browser is free to download, and its AI runs on your Perplexity plan. What decides whether it suits you is how much of the agent you will use, since the free plan has none of it and the paid plans set monthly limits.

What is Comet?
Comet is made by Perplexity and runs on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, with Android 12 or above needed on Android phones. It is an installed browser: your browsing data stays on your device, while search and the assistant run on Perplexity's servers, and Comet sends data only when a request needs it.
Comet has no plans of its own. Its AI features come from your Perplexity account, so signing in to a free account adds saved chats and higher limits, and a paid Perplexity plan unlocks the agent.
Browsing with Comet
Perplexity search is the primary search engine in Comet. The Comet Assistant sits in a side panel, reads your open tabs and PDFs in the browser, and answers questions about them. Voice Mode lets you talk to Comet hands-free while you browse, in 36 conversation languages with 10 voices.
The agent completes tasks on its own: it can find flights that match your calendar, schedule meetings and fill out forms on websites, and it works on any site you are signed in to. It asks before important or sensitive actions. The agent is not on the free plan, Pro includes it within monthly limits, and Max adds Max Assistant.
Model choice applies to Perplexity Search on Pro and Max. The models include GPT-6.1 Sol, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Kimi K3, GLM 5.3, Grok 4.7 and Nemotron 3.5 Super VL, while GPT-6 Astra, Gemini 4 Argon, Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Fable 5.1 need Max. On the free plan you can use Best and a few Pro Searches, but you cannot pick an advanced model yourself. The Comet Assistant chooses its models itself.
Deep Research writes in-depth reports with more sources, charts and reasoning, with one query a month on Free and more on paid plans. Pro and up add image and video generation, higher limits for file and attachment uploads, and Projects with up to 50 file uploads each. Comet uses the same memory as your Perplexity account, and agent actions are not stored in it.
Comet connects to Gmail and Google Calendar for email and calendar questions, and the other connectors on your Perplexity account, such as Google Drive, Notion and Slack, apply in Comet too.
Working with other people
Enterprise Pro and up add shared Projects for team collaboration, custom knowledge hubs and internal file search, and admins can roll Comet out to chosen members. Enterprise plans also come with single sign-on and SCIM for managing access.
Developers can use Perplexity's API Platform, a separate pay-as-you-go product. There is no API for Comet itself.
Comet pricing: what each plan gives

The browser is free. The Free plan gives basic AI features, 3 Pro Searches a day and 1 Research query a month, with no agent queries.
Comet then runs on Perplexity's paid plans. Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly, and includes the agent within monthly limits. Max costs $200 a month, or $2,000 a year, and adds Max Assistant and the Max-only models. Education Pro costs $10 a month for verified students and educators.
Enterprise Pro costs $40 a month per seat, or $400 a year, with 80 agent queries a month. Enterprise Max costs $271 a month per seat billed yearly, with 800 agent queries a month. Both add the team features and admin controls.
Privacy and security
On Free, Pro and Max, AI Data Retention is on by default, and you can control whether your data is used to train AI models. Enterprise is different: "For Enterprise users, no data is ever logged or used to train AI models."
Paired with a Perplexity Enterprise account, Comet operates under SOC 2 Type II certification and GDPR compliance. Single sign-on and SCIM are on the Enterprise plans. Support for Comet runs by email at comet@perplexity.ai, through Perplexity's Discord, through Contact Support in the app and through Comet's own help center.
Who Comet suits
Comet suits people who already search with Perplexity, or want to, and would like that search, a tab-reading assistant and an agent that books, schedules and fills in forms built into the browser itself. Perplexity Pro subscribers get the agent at no extra cost, and the browser runs on both computers and phones.
It suits less well anyone who wants the agent for free, since the free plan has no agent queries. Outside Enterprise, AI Data Retention is on by default, so you have to change the setting to keep your data out of training, and the Max-only models and Max Assistant come at a much higher monthly price.
