How the Spec Score works

Scored from what Poe publishes on its own site. Not a hands-on test.

Compared with 23 AI assistants. Facts checked 29 Oct 2026.

A fact the vendor does not publish gets half the points, or the typical value for a number, and says so. It never counts as a no. How we score.

Poe is a chat app that puts models and bots from many AI companies behind one account and one subscription, with usage measured in compute points. It has a free plan with a daily points allowance, and paid plans start at $4.99 a month. What decides whether it suits you is whether you want to switch freely between many models and bots from one place.

What is Poe?

Poe is run by Quora, Inc. It works on the web and has apps for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, all running on Poe's servers with a Poe account. The interface is available in English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and German.

Poe makes no models of its own. Every bot on it is powered by a model from another company, and it hosts thousands of official and user-made bots, including image, video and audio models.

The point of Poe is one subscription in place of several: a single account and a single balance of compute points reach every bot, instead of a separate plan or API key for each AI provider. Bots made by Poe itself sit alongside bots built by outside developers, who use its developer platform to publish their own.

What you can do with Poe

Each model is a bot you pick in the app, and some are for subscribers only. The models on offer include GPT-6.1-Sol, GPT-6.1-Terra, GPT-6-Astra, GPT-6-Luna and GPT-5.5-Pro from OpenAI; Claude-Opus-5.5, Claude-Sonnet-5.5, Claude-Fable-5.1, Claude-Fable-5 and Claude-Opus-5 from Anthropic; Gemini-4-Argon, Gemini-3.8-Flash, Gemini-3.5-Flash-Lite and Gemini-Omni-1.1-Flash from Google; and Grok-4.7, Mistral-Large-4 and Kimi-K3.1-Pro.

Web search comes through search bots such as Perplexity-Sonar, which answers with real-time results and citations, and the default Assistant bot also answers with real-time information. The Perplexity-Deep-Research bot searches, reads and evaluates sources on its own and writes a full report.

You can chat directly with uploaded files such as PDFs and images. Image bots include GPT-Image-2.5-Sunburst, GPT-Image-2.5-Flare and Nano-Banana-2-Lite, and video bots come from Runway, Google and others. The official Python bot runs Python 3.11 code from your message and shows the results.

Because every model is a bot in the same app, you can draft with one model, check facts with a search bot and make an image with an image bot without leaving the conversation list or signing in elsewhere.

Memory lets bots get to know your preferences, interests and what you are working on over time. It is off by default and switched on in Settings. Subscribers unlock each bot's full context length, up to 2 million tokens depending on the bot.

Working with other people

Group chats hold up to 200 people together with bots in one conversation. A subscriber can also share their compute points with a limited number of invited family, friend or team members.

For developers, Poe offers an OpenAI-compatible API at api.poe.com, paid with Poe points, so a single API key reaches hundreds of models instead of one key per provider.

Poe pricing: what each plan gives

Everything on Poe is metered in compute points. On the Free plan you receive points every day, which reset at the end of each 24-hour period and do not roll over, and subscriber-only bots are not included.

Paid subscriptions start at $4.99 a month. The plans differ by the number of compute points they grant, daily and/or monthly, and subscribers get exclusive access to some bots, full context length and the option to buy add-on points.

Privacy and security

Official Poe bots, and user-created prompt bots that use OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta models, "do not train on your chats." Third-party developer bots and apps, marked with a half shield, may use chats to train their own models, without access to your account's personal data.

Support runs through a help center with a contact request form and a Discord community.

Who Poe suits

Poe suits people who want to try and compare models from many AI companies without paying for each one, and who like picking a different bot for each job: one for writing, one for search, one for images. Developers get a single OpenAI-compatible API key for hundreds of models, and groups can work with bots together in one chat.

It suits less well anyone who wants their chats kept out of training in every case, since third-party developer bots may use them. Heavy users should know that everything is measured in compute points, so how far a plan goes depends on which bots you use. Free users get a daily allowance that resets every 24 hours and does not roll over, and some bots and each bot's full context length are kept for subscribers.
