How the Spec Score works

Scored from what Teal publishes on its own site. Not a hands-on test.

Compared with 7 AI resume builders. Facts checked 31 Oct 2026.

A fact the vendor does not publish gets half the points, or the typical value for a number, and says so. It never counts as a no. How we score.

Teal is a web resume builder joined to a job tracker, with AI writing, job description matching and mock interviews built in. Whether it suits you depends on how much AI help you want, because resumes, job tracking and PDF downloads are free, while unlimited AI and the full keyword match sit on Teal+, one paid tier billed every 7, 30 or 90 days.

What is Teal?

Teal is a job search tool from the United States. It runs as a web app, with a Chrome extension that saves job posts from more than 40 job boards straight into your tracker.

The idea is to keep the resume and the search in one place. You build and store as many resumes as you like, save the jobs you want, and then match a resume to each job before you apply.

Building your resume with Teal

The builder starts from a blank page or from a resume you already have, since Teal imports PDF and Word files. AI writes bullet points and professional summaries, and a resume rewriter reworks what you have. On the free plan the AI runs on small credit allowances: 5 credits for resume bullets and 2 for professional summaries. Teal+ makes the AI writing unlimited.

Job matching is where Teal earns its place. Paste a job description and AI edits your resume to fit it, and a match score from 0 to 100% weighs your keywords, skills and experience against the post. The free plan shows the top 5 keywords from a job description and a basic resume analysis; the full keyword list and unlimited analysis need Teal+. An ATS resume checker sits alongside the match score.

AI cover letters come with 2 credits on the free plan and are unlimited on Teal+. For LinkedIn, Teal reviews your profile and gives recommendations to improve it, and generates a LinkedIn summary and headline. Mock interviews are tailored to the specific jobs you are going for, with unlimited practice sessions on Teal+.

The job tracker is free and unlimited. You bookmark jobs, set goals, take notes and track each application's status, with one email template per job stage on the free plan. Teal does not apply to jobs for you: the extension saves and tracks posts, and you submit each application yourself.

There are more than 100 resume templates. The free plan uses 10 of them in the builder, and Teal+ unlocks the rest. Resumes download as PDF, and there is no Word export.

Teal pricing: what each plan gives

Teal, Pricing

The free plan has no time limit. It gives unlimited resumes, unlimited job tracking and unlimited PDF exports, 10 templates, the top 5 keywords per job description, a basic resume analysis, and AI credits for 5 resume bullets, 2 professional summaries and 2 cover letters.

Teal+ is the one paid tier, sold in three billing periods: $13 every 7 days, $29 every 30 days, or $79 every 90 days, which is about $26.33 a month. Each period renews automatically at the same price until you cancel. On the weekly option that means $13 every 7 days, about $56 a month if you keep it running. There is no discounted trial, and no lifetime plan.

Privacy and security

Teal's privacy policy is direct on AI training: "We do not use your resume content, cover letters, or other career content to train AI models." It adds that its AI providers do not use resumes to train models either. You keep ownership of the resumes and cover letters you write.

People in the EEA and UK have GDPR rights, requested through hello@tealhq.com. Support runs by email, backed by the Teal Knowledge Base.

Who Teal suits

Teal suits job seekers who want a free resume builder tied to a job tracker, and who apply to enough roles that keeping every post, note and status in one place saves real time. The free plan includes unlimited resumes and PDF downloads, so a light search can run on it without paying.

It suits less well anyone who needs a Word file, since PDF is the one export format. Anyone wanting software to send applications for them will not find that here, and anyone who leans on AI rewriting for every job will use up the free credits quickly and need Teal+.
