Role-based access control means each person gets a role, such as admin, editor or viewer, and the role decides what they can see and change. Changing what editors can do changes it for every editor at once.
02Why it matters when you are choosing
As soon as more than a handful of people use a tool, you need some to have less access than others: a contractor who can view but not export, a client who sees one project. Without roles, everyone is effectively an admin.

Check whether roles are fixed or can be customised, whether access can be limited per project or workspace, and which plan includes it.
04The tools
64 of the 67 tools we checked offer role-based access. Each one is checked against the vendor's own pages. A tool missing from this list may not have been checked yet, which is not the same as a no.
