Data residency is the country or region where a service keeps your files and records. Some vendors let you pick a region when you sign up, often the US or the EU. Others store everything in one place.
02Why it matters when you are choosing
Some companies, public bodies and regulated industries must keep certain data inside the EU or their own country. If a tool cannot promise that, it may be ruled out before anyone looks at its features.
03What to check
Ask which regions are available, whether backups and AI processing stay in that region too, and whether the choice costs extra or needs an enterprise plan.
